JUAN PABLO FORNER READING CLUB is a book club sponsored by Mérida's "Juan Pablo Forner" Municipal Library. We are a group of reading enthusiats who like meeting to have a chat in English, about a novel, play, poem, or whatever may crop up. Sessions are held every two Mondays, at 18.30; and we sometimes have "follow-up activities" outside the library.

BBC's The Worl Book Club.
Mohsin Hamid talks to Harriett Gilbert and an invited audience about his bestselling novel The Reluctant Fundamentalist, on BBC's The World Book Club.
Shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize in 2007 Mohsin Hamid's The Reluctant Fundamentalist is a sparse, gripping, short novel that tackles the complex issues of Islamic fundamentalism and America's 'war on terror' with sympathy and balance.

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer - Whitewashing the fence.
Tomorrow we will carry on with Mark Twain's The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Remember we will be discussing chapters 11-24, both included. In the meantime, here's a litle excerpt from one of the many films based on the novel - the whitewashing episode. Watch it and have fun!

We are back in the saddle.
The fourth season has started, and we are all enjoying Mark Twain's The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.
We handed the book out on Monday 26th September and we are taking it easy: only the first chapters to be discussed on our next session (Monday 10th October).
If you find it hard, here is a quote by Mr Twain:
"Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."

The current season is over.
With "Fahrenheit 451" we finished the current season, but we are still meeting on a regular basis, outside the library, for a chat and a drink.
Have a nice summer, everybody, and refuel for next season!

How very up-to-date...
While reading about Ray Bradbury, I came across this quote, which I think sums up perfectly what some people are feeeling these days:
"I hate all politics. I don't like either political party. One should not belong to them -- one should be an individual, standing in the middle. Anyone that belongs to a party stops thinking."
