If you like background information while reading a novel, there are a lot of websites that you can check out.
One of the sites I use the most is Grade Saver (you have got a link on the "Useful Links" section on the right column).
On Grade Saver you will find Related Links on "The Secret Life of Bees", with a huge amount of information on some of the things which appear in the novel (the 1964 Civil Rights Act, Black Madonnas, Beekeeping terms, etc.)
JUAN PABLO FORNER READING CLUB is a book club sponsored by Mérida's "Juan Pablo Forner" Municipal Library. We are a group of reading enthusiats who like meeting to have a chat in English, about a novel, play, poem, or whatever may crop up. Sessions are held every two Mondays, at 18.30; and we sometimes have "follow-up activities" outside the library.
